105 - Dennis Dart (Plaxton Pointer)
Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart 105 (K105 SFJ) was delivered to Plymouth Citybus on Wednesday 09.09.92 and entered service shortly afterwards on the revamped Honicknowle and Brake Farm services, 61, 62 and 63.
The bus consisted of a Dennis Dart chassis with the chassis number being 9.8SDL3017/1024. A Cummins engine was fitted to the bus.
The bus was fitted with a Plaxton Pointer body with the body code of B40F being applied which denoted that it was a single decker with forty seats in the saloon and it was fitted with just the front entrance door only. The body number allocated by Plaxton to 105 was Plaxton 9298HPN0348.
105 was delivered with a red roof, grey skirt and white in between the saloon windows and also below the windows to the top of the skirt. Some additional red would also be applied to just around the windscreen and also at the rear of the vehicle below the rear window. The demister air intake on the front of the bus would also be painted red. The cantrail above the saloon windows would be painted white with a black line added and also a red line would be applied just above the grey skirt, over the white paint. The entire batch would also have red wheel rims too.
The Plymouth Citybus fleet name would be applied in red and black on all sides of the bus except the rear whereby the fleet name would be in white and black instead. Fleet numbers would be in black and would also be the same size as those already used on the Mercedes-Benz 709D minibuses in the fleet.
The first repaint of 105 would be finished on Wednesday 05.11.97 and would feature a red roof including the cantrail too plus a grey skirt and white around the windows including the windscreen and also below the windows to the top of the grey skirt. The new style of Plymouth Citybus name and logo would be applied in red to the front, nearside and offside with the logo in white fitted to the rear of the bus.
105 would receive one last repaint, which was finished on Wed 16.10.02 and would be the same livery as the previous repaint with the only difference being the use of larger fleet numbers and also the nearside and offside Plymouth Citybus name would be applied just above the front entrance door and also above the cab window.
105 would be slowly cascaded off front line work with the arrival of more low floor vehicles and conversion of more routes to low floor capability. With the arrival of Alexander Dennis Enviros 136-146, (WA08 LDF-LEJ), 105 would become surplus to requirements and would be withdrawn on Tuesday 08.07.08 and would remain mothballed until it was purchased for preservation and restoration by Bobby Darch
The bus passed into preservation on Friday 23.07.10 just two days before the Western National rally held on Plymouth Hoe whereby it made its first public appearance in preservation. It now joins the other vehicles of the Plymouth City Transport Preservation Group and is the first post privatisation Plymouth Citybus vehicle to enter preservation.
