London & Country became part of the Arriva Group in January 1999, and 642 was renumbered 7642, becoming part of Arriva Kent & Sussex and was soon repainted into Arriva's corporate turquoise blue and cream livery. In April 2001 it was transferred to Arriva Medway Towns.
642 was new to London & Country in September 1989, entering service at Godstone depot in Surrey a month later following a month in store at Reigate. In July 1990 it was transferred to Beddington depot.
In January 1995 it was transferred to London & Country’s ‘Londonlinks’ operations which was the name given to its sevices which operated London Transport tendered services. It was often found on London Transport service 57 (Kingston - Streatham Hill), as pictured here, which is at Merton Abbey.
In January 2005 Arriva sold the bus to Ensignbus, vehicle dealers based in Purfleet in Essex, who sold the vehicle on to Fargo Coaches of Essex in June of that year. In December 2008 Fargo Coaches were purchased by Stevenson of Rochford and 642 transferred to the new owners of the company.
In August 2010 the bus was further sold to Travelmaster of Sheerness in Kent. In December 2010 it was sold back to Ensignbus again, as vehicle dealers. After a brief spell hired out to Linkfast of Benfleet, Essex in January 2011, it was sold to Paul Paske in February 2011 who plans to restore it back into London & Country’s ‘Londonlinks’ livery.
